OKLAHOMA CITY - Oda Jensen (Ketterer) Schotanus, age 95, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and formerly of Yankton, died Sunday, May 4, 2008 at the Odyssey House in Oklahoma City.
Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 10, 2008 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Yankton with the Reverend David Lund officiating. Burial will be in the Yankton Cemetery.
Visitation is from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Visitation continues one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.
Pallbearers are Jerry Reining Jr., Roger Reining, Joseph A. Ketter, Austin Reining, Michael Schaefer, Josh Rupp and Joe Wipf Jr. Honorary pallbearers are Oda's grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Oda was born on February 11, 1913 in Ulsted, Denmark to Niels and Johana (Christensen) Jensen. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Oda came with her family to the United States on January 24, 1924 and settled near Irene, South Dakota. She attended various schools, finishing her education in Viborg. On November 21, 1932, she married Joseph F. Ketterer and they farmed near Irene. Oda became a citizen of the United States on May 4, 1941. Around 1957, they moved to Yankton and on April 9, 1959, her husband, Joe passed away. Throughout her life, Oda worked at Stuelpnagels, the Hotel Gurney Coffee Shop as a cook, the Human Services Center for almost 20 years, and at Stockman's Caf . On April 20, 1976, Oda married Frank Schotanus and he passed away on January 29, 1984. Oda loved gardening, fishing, traveling, sewing and crocheting. She always made sure every grandchild received an afghan when they were born. Oda was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the VFW Auxiliary.
Oda is survived by 3 children: Roger (Lois) Ketterer of Montana, Kathleen (Gilbert) Hackett of Oklahoma City, OK and Joyce (Jerry) Reining of Sioux City, IA; 29 grandchildren; 50 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; in-laws: Robert's wife, Shirley Ketterer of Sioux Falls, Joe's wife, Betty Ketter of Yankton and Ileen's special friend, Ed Nelson of Sioux City, IA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph Ketterer; husband, Frank Schotanus; 3 children: Robert Ketterer, Ileen Guillaume and Joseph F. Ketterer Jr.; 3 grandchildren: Crystal Reining, Peggy Jo Ketterer and Eldon James Hackett; a great-great grandchild in infancy; a brother, Egan Jensen; and 2 sisters, Liz Mitchell and Elsie Klug.
