MMC To Introduce Hall Of Fame Class Today; Induction Set For May 8
Mount Marty College will induct three new members to the Lancer Athletic Hall of Fame during a ceremony on Sunday, May 8.
The inductees will be introducted at halftime of the men’s basketball game on Saturday, Jan. 22, as MMC hosts Sioux Falls for a doubleheader.
The 2011 class includes Tim Jensen (baseball, 1992-94), Michelle Pfeifer (track, 2000-04) and Chris Orr (women’s basketball, 1988-92).
A major part of 55 wins in his two years at Mount Marty, Jensen’s impact can be seen on the career charts where he is fifth in strikeouts, complete games, and ERA. Just as effective at the plate, he is fourth in home runs and second in batting average. Jensen was ranked among the best in the nation in five different categories. He holds Lancer records for home runs and complete games pitched in a season. For his efforts, he was named to the NAIA All-District 12 Baseball Honor Squad both years, and was also named to the NAIA All-Region Team in 1994 and the South Dakota All NAIA Team in 1993.
Pfeifer’s outstanding track and field career got off to a quick start as she was a national qualifier for both the Indoor and Outdoor NAIA Track and Field Championships her freshman year. She earned her first All-American certificate sophomore year in the long jump, and proceeded to win three other All-American awards in multi-events, including placing second in the nation for the heptathlon in 2003. Pfeifer earned 14 Great Plains Athletic Conference All-Conference Awards and was named the GPAC Track and Field Female Athlete of the Year for both the Indoor and Outdoor seasons. She also earned four Academic All-American Awards, and set 19 school records. She received Mount Marty College’s Athlete of the Year and Champion of Character of the Year awards in 2004.
Considered one of the most versatile basketball players to ever play the game for the Lancers, Orr ranked in the top five on career charts for points, rebounds, assists, and steals at the time of her graduation. She is still in the top 10 in each of these categories — the only women’s player listed in all four of the major stats for basketball. Orr also ranks in the top 10 career charts in eight other categories, including field goal percentage, free throw percentage, 3’s made, and games played. During her career, she played a big part in the teams that won two conference championships, and were champions of the NAIA Southeast Sub-District all four years. Orr was a two-time All-Conference selection in the IO-KOTA Conference.
