SCOTLAND — A Lesterville man died Thursday morning in a one-vehicle rollover near Scotland.

The Yankton County sheriff’s office identified the victim as Justin E. Pinkelman, 29. He was the only occupant in the vehicle.

The accident was discovered and reported at 1:14 a.m. Thursday, the sheriff’s office said. The accident occurred on NW Jim River Road, approximately 3/10 of a mile east of 428th Avenue. The location is in Odessa Township, in the northwest corner of Yankton County.

According the South Dakota Highway Patrol, the eastbound vehicle went off the north side of the road about 4 1/2 miles east of Scotland and rolled once.

Pinkelman wasn’t wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. He was taken to Landmann-Jungman Memorial Hospital Avera in Scotland and was transferred by helicopter to Avera Health in Sioux Falls, where he died about 10:30 a.m. Thursday.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. The SDHP, Yankton County sheriff’s office, Scotland fire and rescue and the Scotland ambulance responded to the accident.

This is the fifth fatal accident reported in Yankton County so far this year, according to the sheriff’s office. Five persons have died as a result of the five accidents.
