Tanagers Upset Harrisburg 3-2

VERMILLION — Once up 2-0 in the match, the Vermillion Tanagers hung on for a 25-22, 25-21, 20-25, 20-25, 18-16 victory over Harrisburg on Monday night in Vermillion.

Sierra Allen recorded 14 kills and eight digs for the Tanagers (14-10), while Lexi Regnerus had nine kills, Molly LeCates had 20 set assists and Elise Hughes-Berheim added 21 digs.

For the Tigers (15-9), Kristin Ackermann recorded 17 kills and 29 digs, while Brianna Tuenge added 11 kills and 25 digs. Taylor Jones had 48 set assists and 13 digs.

Vermillion closes its regular season Thursday at Elk Point-Jefferson, while Harrisburg opens District 7A action next week in Lennox.

WYNOT, Neb. — The top seed Wynot Blue Devils defeated Emerson-Hubbard 25-14, 25-20, 25-12 in first round action Monday at the Lewis & Clark Conference Tournament in Wynot, Neb.

Sarah Schulte led Wynot with eight kills, while Shelby Wieseler added 23 set assists and nine digs, and Ashley Schmidt had 15 digs.

No stats were reported for Emerson-Hubbard.

Brandi Sorenson added 20 digs for the Lady Bulldogs (16-5), while Sarah Fanta had 14 set assists and Alyssa Kruse had 12 digs.

For the Warriors, Abby Kallhoff had eight kills, three blocks and 10 digs, while Erin Keetle added 13 set assists and seven digs.

Creighton will face Elkhorn Valley today (Tuesday) in the second round.

Alicia Hofer led Freeman Academy (6-13) with four kills, 10 digs and 17 set assists, while Jaden Miller added 12 digs and four kills. Lori Rensink had three blocks, eight digs and three kills.

For O-R-R, Logan Johnson recorded 14 kills, five blocks, seven digs and three set assists, while Megan Powell had 15 set assists and Carly Carper had 11 kills.

Erika Rohlk led Avon (12-11) with 12 kills, while Shayna Nagel had seven digs and Gina Cuka added 17 set assists.

For the Raiderettes (8-16), Taylor Anderson had five kills and 10 digs, while Natalie Harkness recorded 20 set assists.

Avon begins District 11B action next Tuesday in Freeman, while G-V opens 8B action in Centerville.

Brooke DeKramer led Canistota (14-11) with 18 kills, 12 digs and three ace serves, while Haley German added 14 kills. Cassie Townsend had 20 set assists and Caroline Schroeder added 12 digs.

For the Eagles (7-19), Haley Hinseth had nine kills and three blocks, while Elizabeth Nutley added six kills and two blocks. Melissa Hessman chipped in with 10 set assists and four ace serves.

Canistota begins District 7B action next Tuesday in Marion, while Irene-Wakonda opens District 8B play next Tuesday in Centerville.

Ivy Pearson recorded 13 digs, 12 set assists, nine kills and three blocks for the Cubs (15-10), while Sarah Haisch added 12 digs. Alyce Johnson had 14 set assists and 10 digs, while Beth Gustner added 16 digs.

For the Lady Bulldogs (20-7), Hailey Jorgensen had 11 kills and 11 set assists, while Jasmyn Hansen added 10 kills and three blocks. Alexis Reiners recorded 25 digs and Tessa Buehler added 12 set assists.

Both teams begin district play on Nov. 3. Alcester-Hudson will compete in District 8B in Centerville, while Hurley will be in Marion for District 7B.

MARION — Cara Schardin had another big night to lead the Marion Bears past Freeman 25-16, 25-21, 25-17 in Cornbelt Conference action Monday night in Marion.

The Bears wore pink jerseys in support of the fight against breast cancer.

Schardin recorded 19 kills and 24 digs for Marion (16-6), while Allison Luke added 10 kills and 16 digs. Megan Kayser had 23 digs and 18 set assists, while Dannielle Hernandez added 11 set assists and 12 digs.

For Freeman (9-11), Hillary Paulson had 12 kills and three blocks, while Leah Uecker added 17 set assists and eight digs.

Both teams begin district play next Tuesday. Marion hosts District 7B, while Freeman hosts District 11B.

Kami Hoeke and Alexa Cimpl each had 10 kills for Wagner, while Devon Brecke added eight kills and Keaya Weber recorded 34 set assists.

The Cougars (15-11) got 13 kills, two ace serves and one block from Mandy Baxa, while TiAna Vogt added 11 digs, and Kayla Kirwan had nine set assists.

Both teams begind district play next Tuesday, with Wagner in District 10A and South Central in 13A.

Alli Adamson led Parker with 24 digs and five kills, while Jess Kleinsasser had 10 kills. Shaelee Boender added 24 set assists and nine digs, while Tessa Weeldreyer had five kills.

For Howard, Carly Neises had four kills and three blocks, while Danielle Dornbusch added three set assists and one ace serve.

Parker begins District 7B action on Nov. 5 in Marion against the winner of Bridgewater-Emery and Canistota.

Morgan Iwan led Scotland (7-18) with nine kills, while Chelsea Raker had seven kills, and Amber-Dawn Edwards added six kills, two blocks and three digs. Jaymie Barrett and Stephanie Keppen each had eight set assists.

For Menno (2-20), Kelsey Walloch recorded three kills, five digs and two blocks, while Courtney Kessler added two kills, eight set assists and four digs.

Both teams open District 11B play next Tuesday in Freeman.

Hannah Hammer added six kills for Dell Rapids (13-13), while Kristi Hoffman had 15 set assists and Karlie Solum had 12 digs.

For the Watchdogs, Karmen Klostergaard had 12 kills, while Haley Peterson and Alison Klostergaard each added five kills. Megan Olson recorded 21 set assists.

On Thursday, Dell Rapids is at Dakota Valley, while Beresford hosts Tea Area on Friday.

Brieanne Johnson led Andes Central (17-10) with 11 kills and 26 digs, while Kellie Winckler recorded 11 kills, eight blocks and 13 digs. Chrissy Pavel chipped in with 22 set assists and 14 digs.

For the Gorillas (7-16), Taylor Anschutz had 10 kills, Mindi Arizmendis had 15 set assists and Shelby Rajewich added 22 digs.

Both teams begin postseason play next Tuesday, with Andes Central in District 12B and Gregory in District 13A.

ARLINGTON — In the battle of the top teams in their respective classes, it was the Class B Arlington Cardinals who defeated Class A Chester Area 25-8, 16-25, 25-18, 25-18 on Monday night in Arlington.

The Cardinals (27-1) handed Chester Area its first loss of the season. The Flyers close the regular season 22-1.

Allison Boeck recorded 12 kills, 20 digs and 26 set assists for Arlington, while Anne Jensen had 12 kills, and Jacklyn Jencks added 14 set assists and 13 digs.

The Flyers were led by Kelsey Backus, who had 17 kills. Nicole Huwe added 10 kills and Katie Anderson recorded 30 set assists.

Both teams open district play next week.

The Fighting Cougars (9-15) got seven kills and five digs from Chelsea Hiemstra in the win, while Sierra Miles added six kills and Steph Heumiller added 16 set assists.

For Hanson (6-18), Amanda Hart had four kills, Alyssa Persson had eight digs, while Tracy Mathison added eight set assists and four digs.

MCM begins District 10A play next Tuesday, while Hanson is at Sanborn Central on Thursday.

The Chargers (19-2) also got 33 set assists and six ace serves from Amanda Van’t Hul, while Abby Van Gorp added 11 digs.

For Lennox, Sarissa Ihnen recorded 12 digs and Rachel Gibbons added four blocks.

Christian begins District 6A play next week, while Lennox is at Canton next Tuesday.

Erin Haaland recorded nine kills in the win for the Monarchs (25-2), while Rachel Rogers and Mallory Jark each had eight kills. Rina Larson recorded 36 set assists.

For JVC (19-3), Tia Nihart had eight kills and 15 digs, while Tara Nihart added 15 set assists and Emma Smith had 19 digs.

Both teams begin postseason play next week, with Warner in District 2A and JVC in District 9A.

For the Blue Dragons (7-17), Claire Karli had seven kills and four digs, while Morgan Ellefson added 16 set assists.

Candace Page-Marten led Sanborn Central (4-17) with 10 digs, nine set assists and three ace serves, while Tatem Kingsbury had five kills and nine digs.

For SBA (7-17), Emily Pedersen recorded 14 kills and 11 blocks, while Ann Wilken had 17 set assists and Kalli Quicke added 15 digs.

Sanborn Central hosts Hanson on Wednesday, while Sunshine Bible begins District 5B action next Tuesday.

For Dakota Christian (4-19), Ivory Niewenhuis recorded five kills, Tess Overweg had four blocks, Amber Bon Hoffman had nine set assists and Chelsie Nelson added 13 digs.

Both teams return to action today (Monday), as TDA is at Ethan and Dakota Christian travels to Kimball.

CORSICA — The Colome Cowgirls won all three of their matches to earn first place at the Corsica Tournament, held Saturday in Corsica.

Colome (19-6) claimed a 25-9, 25-11 win over Gayville-Volin, followed by a 25-22, 25-13 win over Stickney, and a 25-21, 20-25, 25-19 victory over Corsica in the final match.

Corsica finished 2-1 in the tournament, while Stickney was 1-2 and Gayville-Volin finished 0-3.

Full stats for each match were not reported.

CORSICA DEF. STICKNEY 26-24, 25-11: Cecile Bunke had 11 kills and five digs to lead Corsica (18-9), while Lacey Nepodal added 13 set assists and Emily Van Roekel had 13 digs.

For Stickney (9-15), Steph DeWaard had seven kills, while Jackie Niewenhuis added 10 set assists and Katie Donken had seven digs.
