Late Score Lifts Menno Past Tornadoes

CENTERVILLE — Menno’s Macon Oplinger hit Kory Henrichs for a touchdown with 4.9 seconds left as the Wolves edged Centerville 26-20 in prep football action Friday night.

Oplinger finished with 11 carries for 125 yards and a touchdown, while throwing for 136 yards and one touchdown

Tyler Edler had 11 carries for 74 yard with two touchdown runs, while Trevor Bertsch had 14 tackles for the Wolves.

For the Tornadoes, Waylong Lunning completed eight passes for 111 yard including a passing touchdown, while Cory Cunningham had one touchdown run and one touchdown catch.

Next week, Menno will host Gayville-Volin, while Centerville will travel to Irene-Wakonda.

Bloomfield 28, Osmond 27

BLOOMFIELD, Neb. — Bloomfield came from behind in the fourth quarter to beat Osmond 28-27 on Friday night in Bloomfield, Neb.

Bloomfield went ahead with 6:16 left in the game when Chet Beckmann scored on a 7-yard run and then hit Justin Jindra for the two-point conversion to put the Bees up 28-27.

It was Beckmann’s second touchdown of the game. The first one came in the third quarter on a 7-yard pass to Jindra.

Osmond built a 13-0 lead and led 21-6 with 11:22 left in the second quarter before Bloomfield started it’s comback.

The Bees’ comeback preserves their undefeated record at 3-0 and the loss was Osmond’s first of the year and dropped the Tigers to 2-1.

Nick Nipp rushed for 119 yards on 20 carries and two touchdowns, a one-yard run and a 52-yard run, for the Bees’.

Bloomfield rushed for 313 yards and held Osmond to 182 total yards.

Bloomfield’s next game will be a bye because Niobrara isn’t fielding a team this year. Osmond and hosts Emerson-Hubbard.

Vermillion 14, Canton 13, OT

CANTON — Kylen Freidel had 18 carries for 149 yards and one touchdown to lead Vermillion Tanagers past Canton 14-13 in an overtime contest Friday night in Canton.

Earl Kiertzner had three completion’s for 39 yards, while Bennet Johnson had a two yard touchdown run. The game went into overtime with Canton scoring the first touchdown, but ended up missing the extra point. Then Vermillion marched down the field scoring a touchdown as well and making the extra point.

For the C-Hawks Seth Kroger had 11 carries for 70 yards, while Jeremiah Peterson had 17 carries for 69 yard including a 16 yard touchdown run and Ethan Trube had nine tackles and one blocked field goal.

Next week Canton plays at Tea, while Vermillion has a bye.

Irene-Wakonda 46, Baltic 34

IRENE — Thanks to four touchdown passes by Justin Polley, Irene-Wakonda defeated Baltic 46-34 in a high-flying Tri-Valley Conference contest on Friday night in Irene.

Polley, who had touchdown throws of 25, 45, 10 and 25 yards, completed 16-of-22 passes for 264 yards in the win for the Eagles (2-1).

Dan Sokolowski caught six passes for 135 yards and two touchdowns, while Polley had 89 rushing yards. Bubba Huether added a one-yard touchdown run, while Sam Kiger had a two-yard scoring run and caught a touchdown pass.

Dylan Haguer made 11 tackles in the win.

Irene-Wakonda rolled up 435 yards of total offense, while Baltic had 338 total yards.

Nick Baldwin rushed for 162 yards and had scoring runs of 5, 4 and 3 yards in the loss for the Bulldogs (1-2). Brendan Tidemann added a seven-yard scoring run, while Cody Harwig had a five-yard touchdown run.

Next week, Irene-Wakonda hosts Centerville in Irene and Baltic hosts Alcester-Hudson.

Marion-Hurley 46, Gayville-Volin 22

GAYVILLE — Brad Tunge ran for 309 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Marion-Hurley Cobras past Gayville-Volin 46-22.

The majority of Marion-Hurley offense was taken in the hands of Brad Tunge, while both Kyle Paetow and Steven Schoenwald had touchdown runs for Marion-Hurley (1-3).

For the Raiders, Parker Erickson had a touchdown run of 70 yards, a kick return of 85 yards for a touchdown and nine tackles, while Tyler Kasuske added a 40 yard touchdown run and nine tackles.

Next Friday, Gayville-Volin will travel to Menno.

Hartington 38, Coleridge 8

COLERIDGE, Neb. — Hartington broke the game open in the fourth quarter with 22 points and the Wildcats beat Coleridge 38-8 Friday night during Coleridge’s homecoming.

Hartington did have a 16-8 lead going into the fourth quarter.

Chad Miller had three 50-yard plus touchdown plays for Hartington. His first was in the first quarter to give the Wildcats an 8-0 lead on a 62-yard run. Then he added a 54-yard run in the third quarter to give Hartington a 16-8 lead. Miller scored his third touchdown in the fourth quarter on a 55-yard fumble return for a touchdown.

Matt Miller scored Hartington’s other two touchdowns on an 11-yard run and a 55-yard run, both in the fourth quarter.

Coleridge’s lone touchdown came in the second quarter on Ross Olsen’s 4-yard run. Olsen ran for 134 yards on 25 carries.

Hartington’s next game will be Friday at home against Omaha Nation and Coleridge will travel to Wausa.

Avon 49, Andes Central 6

AVON — Avon got 147 yard and three touchdowns from Jeff Bertus as the Pirates won 49-6 over Lake Andes Friday night at home.

Avon remained undefeated with the win at 3-0 and Andes Central fell to 0-3.

The Pirates built a 35-0 lead by halftime.

Bertus scored his first touchdown in the first quarter on a 40-yard run and added a 69-yard run later in the quarter.

Bertus scored his third touchdown on a seven-yard run in the second quarter.

Avon rushed for 397 total yards n the win and held Andes Central to 191 total yards.

Andes Central scored its only touchdown in third quarter on Grant Petrick’s one-yard run.

Avon’s next game will be Friday at Viborg and Andes Central host Corsica/Stickney.

Tripp-Delmont-Armour 36, Scotland 0

ARMOUR — Tripp-Delmont-Armour forced four turnovers in the Nighthawks 36-0 win over Scotland Friday night.

Tom Heisinger had two touchdown passes, a 31-yard pass to Tyler Payer in the first quarter and a 40-yard pass to Adam Fink in the second quarter.

Danny Baier had two touchdown runs in the game, a one-yard run in the third quarter and a 14-yard run in the fourth quarter, and rushed for 69 yards.

Riley Lau scored the Nighthawks fifth touchdown on a 14-yard run as Tripp-Delmont-Armour improved to 2-1.

Scotland dropped to 0-3 and was led by Tim Sternhangen’s 69 yards rushing. Tanner Suess added 16 tackles in the loss.

Next Friday, Tripp-Delmont-Armor will host Gregory in Tripp and Scotland will host Marty Indian School.

Viborg 51, Alcester-Hudson 0

ALCESTER — Cory Jacobsen combined to score six touchdowns as third-ranked Viborg blanked Alcester-Hudson 51-0 in three quarters on Friday night in Alcester.

Jacobsen rushed for 77 yards and three touchdowns, on runs of 1, 2 and 8 yards, while also passing for 186 yards and three scores.

Also for the Vikings (4-0), Matt Jensen rushed for 58 yards and a touchdown, while Ryne Kludt added an 18-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. Kevin Danielsen caught five passes for 123 yards and two touchdowns.

Viborg had 327 yards of total offense and held the Cubs to 10 total yards.

For Alcester-Hudson, Eric Anderson rushed for 17 yards and Jacob Busch caught one pass for 12 yards. Quarterback Tyler Tabbert completed 2-of-9 passes for 22 yards with two interceptions.

Next week, Viborg hosts Avon and Alcester-Hudson is at Baltic.

Creighton 33, Homer 7

HOMER, Neb. — Landon Pospisil had 123 rushing yards and three touchdowns to lead Creighton Bulldogs past Homer Neb. 33-7.

Klay Fuchtman had one rushing touchdown and one interception return for a touchdown.

For the Knights, Colton Novak had one rushing touchdown.

Next week Creighton hosts Plainview, while Homer travels to Ponca.

Garretson 29, Bon Homme 12

TYNDALL — Garretson had 430 total yards in the Blue Dragons 29-12 win over Bon Homme Friday night in Tyndall.

Garretson (3-1) rushed for 313 yards, led by Shane Vanderberg, who rushed for 181 yards and two touchdowns on 30 carries.

The Blue Dragons also got a 52-yard touchdown run from Adam Halverson and a nine-yard touchdown run from Shane Dickey.

Bon Homme fell to 2-2 with the loss.

The Cavaliers were led by Michael Rupperlt, who had 116 yards on five carries including a 74-yard touchdown run. Jared Van Winkle added a three-yard touchdown run for Bon Homme.

Garretson has next week off, but Bon Homme will be at Wagner next Friday.

Lindsay Holy Family 42, Wynot 38

LINDSAY, Neb. — Lindsay Holy Family racked up 354 yards of total offense to lead Lindsay Holy Family Neb. past the Wynot Blue Devils 42-38.

For the Blue Devils, Tyler Pinkelman had 21 carries for 197 yards, while Devin Wieseler had eight carries for 80 yards.

Next week, Lindsey Holy Family travels to Nebraska Luthern, while Wynot hosts Newcastle.

BURKE — Colton Johnson ran for 94 yards, one touchdown, along with seven tackles and three sacks to lead the South Central Cougars (2-1) past the Marty Indian Braves 52-0.

Luke Tuttle threw for 38 yards including one touchdown pass and also had a one yard touchdown run, while Jared Warnke had 74 yards rushing, including a 1-yard touchdown run and a 33-yard touchdown catch.

For the Braves, Marcus Marks had six carries for 26 yards, while Aaron Long had eight tackles.

Next Friday, South Central will travel to Colome.

Ewing 75, Verdigre 6

EWING, Neb. — Ewing put the game away in the first quarter with a 33-0 lead in its 75-6 win over Verdigre.

Ewing’s quarterback Philip Thramer had seven total touchdowns, four passing and three rushing, and combined for 290 yard, 160 rushing and 130 yards passing.

Ewing ran for a total of 320 yards and is now 3-0 on the year.

Verdigre falls to 0-3 and scored its lone touchdown in the third quarter.

Ewing’s next game will be at home Friday against Pope John and Verdigre hosts Stuart.

Dell Rapids 32, Madison 6

MADISON — Dell Rapids held Madison to 136 total yards in the Quarriers 32-6 win on the road Friday night.

Dell Rapids (2-1) ran for 331 yards and Pat Curry rushed for 125 yards on 11 carries and three touchdowns in the win. Curry scored on rushes of 13, 11 and 39 yards.

Laker Thompson scored Madison’s only touchdown on a three-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Dell Rapids hosts Lennox next Friday and Madison hosts West Central.

Hitchcock-Tulare 44, Sunshine Bible 6

MILLER — Defending Class 9B state runner-up Hitchcock-Tulare moved to 4-0 with a 44-6 road win over Sunshine Bible Academy in 281 Conference on Friday night in Miller.

The Patriots got a pair of rushing touchdowns from both Ryan Huizenga and Connor Skaare. Huizenga completed 9-of-16 passes for 140 yards and a touchdown, while also returning an interception 37 yards for a score on defense. Skaare added 81 rushing yards.

Hitchcock-Tulare (4-0, 2-0) rolled up 395 yards of total offense, led by 253 rushing yards. The Patriots led 22-0 at halftime.

For SBA (2-2, 1-2), Ethan McClain passed for 30 yards and a touchdown, that coming to Cole McClain in the third quarter. The Crusaders also got 49 rushing yards from Cody Weiss, while Caleb Crossman ran for 40 yards.

Next week, Hitchcock-Tulare plays Sanborn Central and SBA travels to Wessington Springs.
