Thune: Republicans Weakened In Senate
By The Associated Press
Republican Sen. John Thune says Republican proposals could hit a roadblock in the Senate with the official election of Democrat Al Franken in Minnesota.
That would give Democrats a filibuster-ending 60 votes in the Senate.
Thune says it’s his belief that most Americans favor checks and balances and want to see the Senate function in a way that allows Republicans to offer amendments and see them put to a vote. He says that’ll be in jeopardy after Franken is sworn in next week.
Franken was recently certified the winner of a drawn-out Senate race with Republican Norm Coleman.
