MENNO — The Menno Mad Frogs exploded for 15 runs in a three-inning span to claim a 15-1 victory over Irene in South Central League amatuer baseball action Thursday.
Menno scored five runs in the third to claim the early lead. After both teams scored a run in the fourth, the Mad Frogs went wild with nine runs in the fifth to ice the win.
Ryan Liebl had three hits, including a three-run home run, to lead Menno. Robb McClemans doubled and singled. Kent Sattler and Jarud Lang had two hits each. Josh Berndt added a double in the win.
West Robertson doubled and singled for Irene. Adam Gale added two hits.
Trey Krier went the distance for the win, striking out 10. Simon Healy took the loss.
Menno, 7-6 in SCL play, hosts Scotland Saturday. There will be fireworks after the July 4 game.
Irene, 6-8 in league action, is off until a Tuesday game at Tea.

Vermillion Red Sox 11, S.C. Saints 5
SIOUX CITY, Iowa — Robin Chute and Cody Davis each had four hits to lead the Vermillion Red Sox past the Sioux City Saints Wednesday.
Chute had a home run, double and three RBI for Vermillion. Davis also drove in three runs. Colby Lessman had three hits, including a home run and a double. Kasey Neumann had two hits, and Jim McNaughton added a double in the win.
Billy Meacham homered for Sioux City.
Neumann went the distance, striking out 13, for the win. Rett Smith took the loss.
The Red Sox, 10-5, host Garretson Wednesday.
