Pound Count
Several animals are available at the Yankton Animal Shelter. For more information call the Yankton Police Department’s Animal Control Officer, from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday at 661-9494, or 668-5210. A $5 fee is required to adopt an animal. Animals can be viewed on the Humane Society Web site at www.heartlandhumanesociety.net.

When juveniles are released from jail, it is into the care of a parent or guardian.

Accidents
• A Sheriff’s Office report was received at 6:18 p.m. Tuesday of a 1987 Honda Accord that was struck from behind by a 2007 GMC pickup on Highway 46 at its intersection with 450th Ave. The driver of the Accord had to be transported from the scene by ambulance with what were believed to be minor injuries. In addition to the Sheriff’s Office, the South Dakota Highway Patrol, Yankton EMS and Irene Fire and Rescue responded to the accident.
• A Sheriff’s Office report was received at 8:08 p.m. Tuesday that a light green SUV had struck a mailbox and sign along West 11 St.
• A Sheriff’s Office report was received at 9:52 p.m. Tuesday of a vehicle that had struck a deer on 301st St. near 450th Ave.
Arrests
• Mark Sean Marker, 38, was arrested at 9:08 p.m. Tuesday on two bench warrants.
• A 14-year-old juvenile was arrested at 5:48 a.m. Tuesday for purchasing or possessing alcohol. The subject was released at 9:13 a.m. Tuesday.
• Mahland John Teel, 32, was arrested at 5:53 a.m. Tuesday on a parole hold.
• A 16-year-old juvenile was arrested at 1:20 p.m. Tuesday for second-degree petty theft. The subject was released at 1:39 p.m. Tuesday.
• Taylor Jan Wechsler, 19, was arrested at 9:49 p.m. Tuesday on a court hold. The subject was released at 4:54 a.m. Wednesday.
• Myron Glenn Zurcher, 61, was arrested at 3:44 p.m. Tuesday on a hold for the South Dakota State Penitentiary.
Incidents
• A gas drive-off valued at $31 was reported from a local gas station at 4:50 p.m. Tuesday.
