Foster Named To UND Staff
GRAND FORKS, N.D. — Former University of South Dakota standout Jimmie Foster has been named an assistant coach for the University of North Dakota men’s basketball team, UND announced Tuesday.
Foster comes to North Dakota after spending two seasons as an assistant coach at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The Eagles went a combined 60-10 in his two seasons at the school, finishing third nationally in 2008 and as the runner-up in Division II in 2009. During his two-year stint, Foster helped nine Eagles earn all-conference honors, while two of his players went on to earn All-America honors.
A native of Milwaukee, Wis., Foster was a standout player at Rufus King High School before going on to a successful collegiate career at Kirkwood and the University of South Dakota. At Kirkwood, Foster earned All-America honors (second team) as a sophomore and helped lead the Eagles to a pair of ICCAC Championships. He was twice named an All-Region XI performer during his tenure with the Eagles.
After transferring to South Dakota for his final two collegiate seasons, Foster was a two-time All-North Central Conference honoree and was named the league’s Newcomer of the Year in 2001 for the Coyotes. Foster earned his bachelor’s degree in recreation from USD in 2002.
“I am very excited for the opportunity to join the staff here at North Dakota and work in this community,” Foster said. “This is a great time for me to take my career to the top of the collegiate ranks and be at UND as the team continues its transition to the Division I level.”
Foster’s coaching career began back in his hometown where he was an assistant varsity coach for Milwaukee Juneau High School from 2005-06.
