• Dean Clarence Marsh of Buffalo, N.Y. University, and Dr. J. Morriston Thomas, pastor of Waveland Congregational Church, Chicago, are in Yankton over the weekend for Yankton College’s 52nd annual commencement. Thomas will preach the baccalaureate sermon, and Marsh will deliver the commencement address.
• President Roosevelt today asked Congress for $525 million to finance the drought relief program the administration has already undertaken. Absolute freedom for the administration to spend the money as it saw fit was requested.

• Miss Julie Neufeld, is in line to become honored queen of the Grand Bethel of Job’s Daughters in South Dakota at the Grand Bethel session being held in Yankton. She succeeds Miss Joyce Melvin of Rapid City who has been presiding over the state-wide convention.
• Personal property valuations in the city of Yankton this year total $3,431,405, which is an approximately 8 percent increase from the personal property valuation in the city in 1958. For the nine organized townships the 1959 property valuation is $3,783,760 with an increase of approximately 13 percent. In the six towns in Yankton county personal property valuations totalled $339,119 about the same as last year.

• Most people have a hidden talent that they never seem to develop, but 71-year-old Frank Yaggie has discovered his — he is a sculptor. The businessman-turned-artist works mostly in clay, and has always been interested in the history of the Yankton area and the Dakota Territory. His work reflects his feelings, with most of his sculptures images of historic figures from Yankton’s past.
• A dozen former Girl Scout leaders from Yankton, including the organization’s local founder, will be recognized at a 60th anniversary tea. In the fall of 1924, the national Girl Scout organization sent a professional Girl Scout to Yankton College to conduct a leadership training course. Bonnie Gurney Clark was one of the women participating in the training who then later helped to organize the Yankton organization.
