Hanson Clips Wagner In 2 OT

WAGNER — Second-ranked Hanson was pushed to double overtime by Class A ninth-ranked Wagner, but prevailed 65-61 in prep girls’ basketball action Tuesday night in Wagner.

The Beavers led 28-26 at halftime, but Wagner was up 45-40 after three quarters. The game was tied at 52 at the end of regulation and tied at 54 after the first overtime.

Hanson (6-1) got 21 points from Rhianna Gullickson, as well as 17 points and 10 rebounds from Bethany Gross.

Wagner (3-3) got 17 points from Devon Brecke, 14 points and 13 rebounds from Serena Soukup, and 10 points and 10 rebounds from Jilanne Doom. Keaya Weber had six assists in the loss.

Thursday, Hanson hosts Stickney-Mt. Vernon and Wagner is at Bon Homme.

NORTH SIOUX CITY — Jessica Finch hit 11-of-14 free throws and had 25 points to lead Beresford past Dakota Valley 45-44 Tuesday night in North Sioux City.

Taryn Twite added eight points for Beresford, while Alyson Johnsen had seven points.

Alyssa Wall had 19 points and 12 rebounds for the Panthers, while Abbie Huber had eight points.

Hart. Cedar Catholic 44, Lutheran High NE 41

NORFOLK, Neb. — After leading by nine points at halftime, Hartington Cedar Catholic held on to defeat Lutheran High Northeast 44-41 Tuesday night in Norfolk.

The Trojans led 29-20 at halftime and 40-31 after three quarters.

Cedar Catholic got 11 points from Kala Sudbeck, while Dana Dickes added 10 points and seven rebounds.

Lutheran High Northeast got 12 points from Mallory Weaver and six rebounds from Britney Birtell.

Osmond 44, Creighton 35

CREIGHTON, Neb. — Visiting Osmond out-scored Creighton 19-6 in the fourth quarter to rally for a 44-35 victory Tuesday night in Creighton.

The Bulldogs led 21-17 at halftime and 29-25 after three quarters.

Kristen Gudenkauf led the Tigers with 16 points, while Ashley Gillilan added eight points.

For Creighton (2-5), Brandi Sorenson and Macenzy Oberg each scored seven points, while Sarah Fanta and McKayla Fritz each added six points.

Creighton visits Randolph on Friday.

Freeman Academy 49, Menno 40

FREEMAN — Freeman Academy took a nine-point lead after one quarter and made it hold up, claiming a 49-40 victory over Menno in girls’ basketball action Tuesday.

Mandi Ries scored 18 points and Alicia Hofer had 10 points and eight steals to lead Freeman Academy. Lillie Koerner had seven rebounds and Lindsay Waltner added four assists in the win.

Kelsey Walloch led Menno with 21 points and 22 rebounds.

Freeman Academy, 5-1, hosts Walthill Friday. Menno travels to Viborg Thursday.

The host Bobcats won the JV game 21-12.

WAKONDA — Cassie Schuurmans scored a game-high 21 points to lead Bon Homme past Irene-Wakonda 58-37 on Tuesday night in Wakonda.

Rachel Sutera added 14 points for the Cavaliers (6-1), who led 30-13 at halftime.

The Eagles (4-4) got 12 points from Melanie Kathol and 11 points from Nicole Nielsen.

Thursday, Bon Homme hosts Wagner, while Irene-Wakonda is on the road Friday against Gayville-Volin.

VIBORG — In a game in which Viborg’s Alyssa Kraning pulled down her 1,000th career rebound, the host Vikings defeated Tripp-Delmont/Armour 47-29 Tuesday night.

The Vikings (6-0) got 17 points from Sage Knudsen, while Jesse Lee had 12 points and 12 rebounds. Kraning had 10 points and 12 rebounds, while Chelsey Larsen had five assists.

The Nighthawks (1-4) got eight points from Amanda Horn and seven rebounds from Sam Sandau.

Thursday, Viborg hosts Menno and TDA hosts Mitchell Christian on Thursday in Tripp.

SIOUX FALLS — A 22-point fourth quarter propelled Sioux Falls Christian past Parker 60-48 Tuesday night in Sioux Falls.

The Chargers led 30-18 at halftime and 38-28 after three quarters.

Alysse Thompson led Christian (1-3) with 14 points, while Katherine Kirby added 11 points.

For the Pheasants (2-4), Kiera Kraemer had 17 points and Anna Leloux had 11 points.

Friday, Parker is at Hanson, and Sioux Falls Christian is at Tea next Monday.

VERMILLION — Visiting Sioux City East out-scored Vermillion 18-7 in the fourth quarter to win 51-34 Tuesday night in Vermillion.

The Raiders got 14 points from Briana Mozer, as well as 11 points and three steals from Ashley Vanderloo. Sioux City East led 23-18 at halftime and 33-27 after three quarters.

The Tanagers (1-4) got 10 points from Kelly Amundson, while Hannah Nelich-Arobba pulled down eight rebounds.

Vermillion faces Parkston on Friday.

Scotland 63, Hurley 45


HURLEY — The Scotland Highlanders used big starts to each half to claim a 63-45 victory over Hurley in girls’ basketball action Tuesday.

Scotland started the game with a 19-8 first quarter, then had a 20-11 third quarter to put the game out of reach.

Molly Kokesh posted 16 points to lead Scotland. April Winne netted 12 points, four assists and three steals. Cindy Syrovatka had 10 points. Kristy Skorepa added nine rebounds in the win.

For Hurley, Haley Jorgensen led the way with 15 points, 14 rebounds and four steals. Jasmyn Hansen netted 12 points and Ashley Boomgarden added 10 points for the Bulldogs.

Scotland, 3-2, hosts Avon Thursday. Hurley, 2-4, hosts Viborg Monday in a Tri-Valley Conference showdown.

Scotland won the JV game 43-19.

WYNOT, Neb. — A double-double from Ashley Schmidt propelled the Wynot Blue Devils past Omaha Nation 62-32 in non-conference girls’ action Tuesday night in Wynot.

Schmidt recorded 21 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Blue Devils (6-1), while Sarah Schulte added 15 points. Katie Savoy had six steals and Karly Jackson added eight points.

For the Chiefs (3-5), Peggy Sheridan had 10 points.

Wynot hosts Newcastle Thursday.

Elkhorn Valley 60, Newman Grove 37

TILDEN, Neb. — Katie Rich scored 22 points to lead Elkhorn Valley past Newman Grove 60-37 in girls’ basketball action from Monday night in Tilden.

Rich also added seven rebounds and five assists for Elkhorn Valley (6-2), which also got 12 points from Chelsea Herbolshimer and 11 points from Kyleigh Parham.

The Falcons led 34-19 at halftime.

Newman Grove was led by Shae Wallin, who had 10 points. Alyshia Nelson added eight points in the loss.
