NDA To Host Grain Contracting Workshops
LINCOLN— The Nebraska Department of Agriculture (NDA) has scheduled two additional workshops for Nebraska farmers to learn more about their obligations under forward contracts for grain.
Workshops will be held on January 6, 2009, in Central City and Ord. The Central City workshop will begin at 9:30 a.m., and will be held at the Central City Community Room at 1515 - 17th Street. The Ord workshop will begin at 2:00 p.m., and will be held at the First United Methodist Fellowship Hall at 304 South 16th Street.
Director Greg Ibach said NDA has scheduled the additional meeting because of the large turnout of producers at the Albion workshop earlier this month. The purpose of the workshop is to help sellers of grain understand more about the contracting process, particularly given the current market climate within the corn and ethanol markets. The workshops are being coordinated through NDA’s Farm Mediation Program. A program attorney will be on hand to discuss sellers’ rights under grain contracting, and how those rights may be affected by bankruptcy.
Preregistration for the workshops is not required, but is encouraged in order to help organizers plan for the event. Individuals who plan to attend are asked to call the NDA Mediation phone line at 800-446-4071.
