S.D. Blizzard Relief Comes From California
RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) — A California tribe has donated $100,000 in blizzard aid to West River reservation areas still recovering from an early November storm.
The Black Hills Area Chapter of the American Red Cross says the funds will provide immediate assistance and also help with future emergency services on the reservations.
Tribal Chairman James Ramos of the San Manuel Band of Serrano Mission Indians says they are glad to help those who were struck by the blizzard on the Pine Ridge and Rosebud reservations.
The storm left thousands of people in large areas of South Dakota without electricity for several days.
Repair crews from several states helped restore power by replacing broken power poles and electric lines that were snapped by ice, snow and high winds.
Some motorists were stranded for up to two days.
