State Sen. Albers Decides Against Recount
SIOUX FALLS (AP) — Republican State Sen. Ken Albers of Canton, who lost to state Rep. Maggie Gillespie by 118 votes on Nov. 4, said Monday he will not request a recount.
Monday was the deadline for candidates to tell county auditors they would like a recount.
More than 11,000 votes were cast in the state Senate race in District 16.
“I don’t believe the ultimate outcome would change by more than a vote or two here or there, and the expense to the counties just doesn’t merit doing that,” Albers said about requesting a recount.
He said he always thought it would be a close race with Gillespie, a Democrat from Hudson.
“I was expecting a tight race,” he said.
Asked whether he might make another run at elective office someday, Albers said, “Well, I would never say never. I am certainly not thinking today about running for office of any kind. But I guess I wasn’t thinking about it very much when I did it the first time, so who knows.”
