Scouting Enjoyable For Both Girls, Leaders

Published: Sunday, November 9, 2008 11:54 PM CST
Yankton Girl Scout Troop 51200 consists of 13 girls in their first year of Brownies. The girls of Troop 51200 began their scouting adventure last year as Daisies. The leaders of this troop are Sylvia Fedde and Pam Hamberger. Shelley Stoddard, Amy Kramer, Barb Ament, Dawn Koenig and Tracy Hawks are adult volunteers. This is Pam and Sylvia's second year as Girl Scout leaders and they are excited about adventuring into Brownies with their troop.

The girls of Troop 51200 earned all 10 petals as Daisies last year while learning the Girl Scout Law. The troop’s favorite activity last year was Day Camp, where the girls were able to pan for gold, play a water game and make s’mores.

This year the girls have already earned two try-it patches and two fun patches. At their most recent meeting the girls had a Halloween/Birthday party where they learned more about Juliette Gordon Low, the founder of Girl Scouts, USA, whose birthday was on Oct. 31.

Troop 51200 has also helped the community with service projects. Last year they made blankets for the Contact Center and they just completed a Trick-or-Treat for the Women/Children's Shelter project.

Sylvia and Pam enjoy working with all the Girl Scout members in the troop and find being leaders a rewarding and fulfilling experience. Pam and Sylvia's goal as troop leaders is to help girls become confident and capable people who are aware of and are active in the world around them. They like to challenge the girls to explore new concepts and activities.

Sylvia and her husband Brian reside in Yankton with their three children Lilyanna, Alysandra and Zachary. Both of their daughters are Girl Scout members. Sylvia is employed at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital. She enjoys running, quilting, reading and spending time with her family.

Pam and her husband Brian also reside in Yankton with their two children Brynlyn and Emma. Pam is also employed at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital. In her spare time Pam enjoys baking, spending time with her family and collecting Precious Moments.
