Residents Celebrate the Completion of the Discovery Bridge

Residents of Southeast South Dakota, Northeast Nebraska and other communities in both states, along with local, state and federal officials will celebrate the completion of the Discovery Bridge with a Dedication Ceremony on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008 at 10 a.m. on the Nebraska side of the bridge.

There will be a limited number of seats available for the public, so the committee urges guests to bring law chairs.

Persons attending from Yankton or coming from other communities on the South Dakota side of the bridge may park in the numerous parking lots or street parking in the Historic Downtown Yankton and walk across the Discovery Bridge to the staging site.

Those wishing to drive across the bridge immediately following the ceremonies will be able to park on the roadway leading up to the staging area. Drivers can anticipate law enforcement personnel directing them to the new roadway and then volunteers from the Yankton Baseball Association will direct them to a parking stall.

More information about the event will be shared with the public in the next two weeks.

At this point, it is uncertain if the roadway and bridge will be open permanently after the event. There is still work to be done along the roadway that may cause the roadway and bridge to be closed later on Saturday. Final details as to this situation will be announced as the day of the dedication arrives.
