City To Consider Changing Land Sale Ordinance

Published: Saturday, September 20, 2008 12:36 AM CDT
From P&D Staff Reports

The Yankton City Commission will introduce an ordinance amendment Monday that would change the requirements for the sale of city real estate.

Currently, city ordinance requires a unanimous decision to sell property. However, state law requires only that two-thirds of the commission approve the sale. Mayor Dan Specht said Friday that the proposed change is part of the city’s routine efforts to update ordinances and is not being driven by any specific situation.

Also Monday, the commission will introduce an ordinance to get rid of term limits for Planning Commission members. The city currently only allows a member to serve two, three-year terms. State law places no caps on planning commission terms.

The commission will also close out some construction projects Monday, including repair of the library roof.

The meeting gets under way at 7 p.m. in the City of Yankton Meeting Room located at the Technical Education Center, 1200 W. 21st St.
